Dress Attire for Modern Dance and Ballet?

Please tell me what can men wear for Modern dance. Is it right that must be footless(wear footless tights)? By the way, if a man can stand by only his foot toe, can he be a special dancer like ballerina. I mean wearing a pointe shoes.
