My feet and pointe shoes?

I get really bad cramps in my feet whenever im on pointe, does anyone have suggestions on how to prevent it?

I've been dancing on pointe for 4 years and my shoes arent dead.

My feet and pointe shoes?
Make sure you are dancing squarely on the platform of your shoe. If you are over the shoe or back, this will cause your muscles to work harder than necessary and cramp.

Also make sure you warm up your feet properly before you dance. Your barre should have lots of relevés and tendus that get the muscles in your feet warm and strong. If you do barre in pointe shoes, really work on going through your feet in every tendu - it's much harder than in flat shoes - and rolling up to pointe and back down. Don't ever simply "dismount" from point - articulate your feet to develop the proper strength and control.

It may be necessary for you to do your own warmup prior to class, and it is definitely necessary to warm up before rehearsals. Do lots of slow relevés on two feet and one foot. Do slow tendus, massaging the floor with your feet, and quicker tendus, trying to maintain that suppleness. Do lots of rond de jambes as well.

To develop strength outside class, do these theraband exercises: http://www.chicagodancesupply.com/feet.h...

Do the exercise slowly, working through each position.

Whenever you are standing en pointe, focus on lifting out of your shoes. Don't ever sink into them or allow your foot to rest. You probably know this already, but it's good to be reminded.

After class, give your feet a good all-over massage. Massage in between your toes, massage your arches, and anywhere else that feels tight or sore.

Good luck. I hope this helps.
Reply:I'm not sure if there is a way of preventing your feet from cramping up. Mine do too. Maybe massage your feet before putting your shoes on. You should ask your teacher for advice. Sorry I wasn't much of a help. I saw it'd been an hour and nobody answered, so I gave it a shot : )
Reply:Could be a lack of potassium in your body. Try eating more bananas or other potassium filled foods which help with circulation.
