im 16 and my first dance class is thursday. i am taking ballet, hip hop and jazz. i dont know what to wear for clothes, or shoes. and i am not in a beginner class because they dont have them around here. im really nervous, because i have already missed a class or two.
First day of dance at 16?
Usually a class/school you attend has a dress code. You could call where the class is being held and ask. Usually each class you will wear dance tights, a leotard, sometimes a wrap/ballet skirt, and leg warmers if you wish. Each class will require a separate type of shoe. Most teachers/schools are also pretty strict about hair. It should be completely off of your face and usually in a tight bun instead of a ponytail. Good Luck, you will love it.
Reply:Don't worry about it, if your're just starting out don't go out and buy a whole wardrobe for dance just to find out that you don't like it. Just wear a pair of spandex shorts or something else that is flexible and a tank top or t-shirt. Make sure to bring some warm up pants to throw on top afterwards. That way you will keep your legs warm and not end up pulling any muscles.
Reply:Just wear comfortable, fairly loose sweats for your first time. I'm sure the teacher will help you because you're new and tell you what to bring next time. You're probably going to take your shoes off when you get their anyway. And if its not a beginers class then you will need ballet shoes that she might or might not supply for you. You'll find everything out when you get there. Just have fun with it! Sounds like a lot of fun to me.
Reply:wear loose comfortable clothes, just try not to look gay lol cuz people are hardcore stereotypists and u dont want to leave a bad impression.
Reply:Well, you want appropriate shoes. Ballet= ballet shoes, as to canvas or leather, I'm not sure what kinds of floors the studio has; Jazz= jazz shoes, again they could want black or tan; Hip Hop= you probably could get away with wearing you jazz shoes until you figure out what kind of sneakers they have; For ballet, we wear leotards and tights with hair in a bun, but many studios aren't as traditional in attire. I would wear black convertable tights, a black leotard, capri sweats (black), and a t-shirt; layers is always good so that you can remove the shirt and capris if necessary. Overall, don't worry. You'll have fun and it'll only take one week to learn the basics about attire. Ask your new teacher what kinds of shoes and clothing questions because some studios have rules about attire. Good luck, I hope I could help ( :
Reply:Loose clothing tht you can move and sweat in. Clean socks (you'll be taking your shoes off). Call and ask if you need to wear a certain shoe, hard, sole or soft, etc. They might send you to buy dance shoes. They look like tap shoes but with no taps or bowl. Good for Jazz.
Reply:Well, first of all. GOOD LUCK! :)
For Ballet, you'd want a black/navy blue or even dark green body suit, (might depend on what studio your going too and also if your taken open classes or RAD Exam classes) pinky-white tights, ballet shoes and wear your hair in a bun.
For Hiphop, sweats or yoga pants and a tanktop. Just comfortable clothes or something you can sweat in. Hiphop or clean street shoes.
For Jazz, black yoga pants or some tight fitting pants and a tanktop or t-shirt. Jazz shoes or bare feet.
Reply:Sometimes the teacher will request what kind of shoes to wear. If not, for ballet you wear ballet shoes (the slippers), and you can even wear those for jazz also. (There are also jazz shoes you can buy, several types). Hip hop you can just wear a pair of sneakers. When it comes to what to wear, I would have on tight fitting clothes. For ballet, I always wore a leotard and just put pants/capris/shorts on over that for jazz and hip hop.
Don't be nervous! The first class you can even go in tight clothes and wear just your socks for ballet and jazz, so you don't go out and buy clothes and/or shoes without knowing what everyone else wears and what the teacher wants. The teacher will be fine if you don't wear the proper attire to class the first day, so don't worry.
Have fun! I danced for 15 years and loved it. Hip hop was my favorite :o)
