I have a pair of pointe shoes that are KILLING ME! I had them for 6months and they still hurt! i try to practice at home but i am still recovering from blisters from dance class! I have a pointe recital in 3days! and i am afraid that my feet will kill me during the dance that i can't get up! also, i bled in them twice! what is wrong! also i don't know if they are broken in yet! also my second toe is bigger than my big toe and it curls which give me blisters on top of the curl and the side of my big toe! WHAT AM I SUPOSE TO DO!!!!!(this is begging not yelling). I don't know what to do!?! Someone please help me out?!?

Pointe shoes still hurt after months what to do?
Your toes aren't supposed to be straight in the pointe shoe anyway, they should be slightly curled. Though you are using padding, you need better or more. Ouch pouches work good.

One reason for the problem may be that you are depending too much on your pointe shoes to do the work for you. The pointe shoes are not made to support you. You need to almost lift up and out of your pointe shoes using your core (stomach, back).

Another possible explanation would be the quality of pointe shoe. Are you new to pointe? What brand is it? It should never take six months to break them in unless you haven't done much with them. If your box is soft, shank is weak or maybe broken, parts of the pointe shoe seem to be slicing into your foot anywhere, the shoes are too tight or too loose, ANY of those things, then you need new pointe shoes.

I would suggest getting new ones, professionally fitted of course. Don't get new ones until after your performance. Your shoes may hurt now, but since you only have 3 days, you won't have time to properly break in your pointe shoes and it will hurt just as much if not more.

Good luck and I hope I helped. Have fun in ballet and at your recital!
Reply:The best thing you can do is look for ways to alleviate the blisters. There are lots of products that might help. You may just have to try a bunch of them until you find which one works for you. There are ouch pouches, gel pads, toes separators, individual toe tips......look at this link and you may find something...http://www.allaboutdance.com/s.nl/sc.2/c...

I would try to put an individual gel toe tip on the larger second toe, maybe use a separator between the 2nd and big toe. Make sure you wrap each toe individually to help stop the rubbing. That is the best you can do until after the performance.

After the performance, you might look at a different pair of shoes. Sometimes you just need to try a different size box, different length vamp, or just a new brand of pointe shoe until you find the one that works best with your individual foot.

Shoes with a deep vamp and perhaps a tapered box (depending on your foot structure), like the Grishko Ulanova II are often recommended for feet with a longer 2nd toe.
Reply:dont use lamb wool ones(toe pads)

i had those and after a while they got flat and it hurt bad

so just gel pads

and make sure the toe shoes are the right size

and toe shoes are supposed to hurt a lil bit

some people's feet always bleed and some people never do

its a natural thing

and sometimes my toe pads go off to the side of my foot so my foot rubs against the shoes and the bleed so watch out for that

and make sure you tie them correctly and not too tight and not too loose
Reply:I have the same problem...do you use toe pads? or wrap cotton around the toes that blister.
Reply:6 months is much too long to suffer, switch to open toed dance shoes! You might consider visiting a podiatrist! Throw away those pointe shoes in the GARBAGE that are causing you this pain, shoes aren't suppose to hurt.
Reply:Seems that you have a real problem, try buying a larger pair.
Reply:okay. try bending and flexing them. thats what i do. you can also try squishing the vamp a little.

another thing you could do is put some Lambs Wool in the area where it hurts

good luck in your show :- )
Reply:you should get a new pair maybe a size larger and stuff more wool into them...its not your fault that you get blisters though..make sure you put your feet in warm water the next few days!!
Reply:Recent techonology has produced gel pads that make pointe work less painful. I would suggest getting gel pad if you don't have them. Try placing the wool over the joints of the toe before putting tights on. This should keep the wool from slipping. My second toe is also bigger. There are shoes that have a box for the larger second toe. They are Grishko Ulanova II and Prima Soft Royale. These shoes should make your feet a lot less painful. Good luck on your recital.
Reply:I wear Freed's or Carpezio and I wrap each toe in surgical tape but I don't use toe caps as they don't cover each toe individually. You can take the tape several rounds over the toes which hurt the most. Keep the nails short. I think bleeding toes and toe nails turning black and falling off are part and parcel of ballet. Pointe shoes are supposed to fit like a second skin. How much practice do you put in? For a pair to last 6 months seems pretty long. A performer goes through several pairs in ONE performance.
Reply:the second toe being longer is not that uncommon, i have the same problem. there was an article in dance magazine that called it something i forgot, but to help it to hurt less, try to make the other toes level with #2. use wool or get gel toe pads. i am making the assumption that you went and got fitted by a professional, because one other problem is your shoes might not fit correctly. don't fret it your problem can be solved. as for the breaking in process, your shoes will be amazingly flexable and the satin very dirty.
