Buying Pointe Shoes?

Hi, I live in a small town so their aren't any dance stores nearby, I've been dancing for 5 years and next september I'm going on pointe. Every, like, 3 months my parents go to El Paso where there are actually stores! I want them to buy me pointe shoes cause I have to go to a camp so I cant go with them. I'm going to measure my feet, will that work or would I get a bad fit? Also any good brands that aren't too expensive but good that last? Thank-you!

Buying Pointe Shoes?
Hey dear,

You really do need to get fitted. Each pointe shoe brand and style fit your foot uniquely. And the sizes are different for each brand. For a first time I would try the bloch serenade, or bloch sonata. They're good supportive shoes, that last a decent amount of time, and are one of the least expensive shoes out there.

Perhaps ask your dance teacher/studio if they can fit you. Or ask other girls to try on their shoes to get an idea for size and style etc. Then ask your parents to get a couple different sizes and styles based on what your teacher, and the other girls shoes are like. It just might work.

Your best bet is to go with them the next time they go and get fitted. Best of luck. %26lt;3
Reply:Sorry to say this but.

The best way to get pointe shoes that fit means you have to be there. Every company's shoes fits different and they have different pads and shanks and toe boxes. It would save you a lot of time and money to go with your mum and get them fitted there.

And the worst thing is to have a bad fitting pointe shoe. It can lead to all sorts of problems and you might not be able to roll up onto pointe or your shoes could slip off. Or you could end up with a bad foot.
Reply:measuring your feet will not work. I've been on pointe for 3 years and as much as i wished that worked it doesnt. Pointe shoe fittings have to do w/ your arch, your toes, not just length. Your going to have to go w/ your parents. It will take at least a couple differnet tries before you find the brand for you, there's 100's. Once you find a brand that you like you can just order them online... so it will eventually get easy. I use gaynor mindens and they work really well but it depends on your feet.

good luck :)
Reply:Sounds sort of risky.......but measuring could work. Just remember what these shoes are actually going to be doing to your feet, your feet need complete support with pointe. You really want a perfect fit or you could really mess up your feet. The store clerk will be an expert on pointe shoes and will find the right fit and brand for your feet. I think you should try to go with them the first time, after that you can order online or just send your parents. Good Luck!!!!!
Reply:you defintaly need to get fitted. there r soo many different things that need to get fitted and varry from shoe to shoe such as- toe length, arch location and depth, width, heel width, toe width, box size, shank hardness and size, actual foot/shoe size, and so much more. i really like grishkos they're so great and there r so many different styles. i also like gaynor mindens but DONT i repeat DO NOT get them for your first pair because you need to learn to use ur feet and roll through point and demi pointe with your feet and the gaynors make it way too easy for beginers(not to mention they're EXPENSIVE) so go with your parents another time u really need to get fitted. and also as far as toe pads go i suggest ouch pouches dont get jelly toe pads because they push sweat back into ur feet which makes them hurt or go numb. ouch pouches r not like that at all they''re very comftorble. good luck and have fun!
Reply:You should always ALWAYS be there to get new dance shoes because they need to be fit JUST right...Good luck
Reply:Get them professionally fitted!! For your own safety!!

I recommend Bloch pointe shoes - I love them!!!!!
Reply:If you are buying pointe shoes, you have to be there to get them fitted because your feet might not like the feeling of some of the shoes. The kind of shoes you get are depended on how strong your feet and ankles are. 2 good brands that I recommend are Capezio and Bloch. They worked for me!
Reply:Gaynor Mindens are the bomb!! I think you'll have a very bad fit if you don't go with them...just because they've got measurements doesn't mean it's gonna give a perfect fit...Maybe your foot is wider or you don't like hard-backs...or maybe the hard-backs are just what you need...No...I'd rather wait 3 months and strengthen my feet rather than buying something I cant use but will be forced to use by my parents and end up with shin-splints or back-aches.
Reply:no! no! no! you need to be their to buy your pointe shoes! Omg! dont do anything else! go and try ona bout 5 pairs and then make you desicion!

Did you dance teacher say it was alright for you to go on pointe?
Reply:I realize most of the other people that responded said this as well, however, I am going to say it too.

In order to purchase pointe shoes, and be properly fit, you need to make a trip to a dance store. It is sad that there is not one in your area and I am sorry that you have to travel so far. But honestly it will be for the best. Fitting pointe shoes is something that at my store (I work at a dance store) is by appointment only...so that we can take as much time as we need with the student and show them and teach them how to use their shoes properly. How they should fit, how they should feel, if they fit you right.

My other concern for you not being fit, is that every company makes several different shoes. I can tell you what shoe is most commonly purchased but that does not mean that will fit your foot the same way it fits someone elses. Does that make sense?

I think that the best thing for you to do is take a short day trip somewhere (to El Paso?) and get yourself fitted and spend a day shopping for dance attire! It is always a great time no matter what.

I hope this helps, and good luck! Pointe is a blast, so have fun with it! Just be sure to listen to your teacher as she will tell you very important things about being en pointe!
