New tap shoes Problem?

I just bought my first pair of tap shoes. They are Capezio with a full sole and teletone taps...They are really hard to dance in! Besides the heel, the main thing is that they are very slick so I slide instead of making a clear "tap" sound. Do they just need breaking in or is there something I can do to change this? Any advice is greatly appreciated!!

eww. I hate when that happens! I would break them in, for the slickness, do shuffles on concrete to put some texture on the bottom. It will help you not slip as much
Reply:yeah you just have to let them break in and they should fit eaither that or they are too big
Reply:Give them time to break in. Tap shoes, and especially ballet shoes are uncomfortable.
Reply:Try breaking them in. Just stand there and shuffle for a while to get the taps warm. You need to build some friction, so very gently scrape the tap along the concrete, just a little though! This will roughen up the tap and make it less smooth. Or you can just where them around your house for a couple of hours. Just keep tappin and it will get easier. I've had the same prob before and it takes awhile. I hope I helped!
