Is pointe shoes for me????

i have been dancing for 8 years, and i have practiced classical ballet everytime i had dance class. I want to take i tto the next level and go on pointe shoes. If i do, i will teach myself at home.

Is pointe shoes for me????
I have done pointe for several years and I strongly suggest that you do not teach yourself at home. Without someone to tell you exactly what your feet and ankles are doing wrong when you start you are guaranteed to develop some bad habits and almost as guaranteed to injure yourself. If you would like to do pointe find a class. It is more than worth it. If your studio won't let you. Find another one. With most forms of dance I would be more than happy to encourage home learning, but with pointe I think it would be dangerous and not the intelligent decision. Even if you manage not to hurt yourself, your chances of developing proper technique on your own is very small. If you have been dancing consistently for eight years, chances are that your ankles are strong and flexible enough to begin pointe, but that doesn't mean you should begin without proper training. I hope you consider looking for a class for your own good. Even if you only take that class for one season, although more would be better, I think that is the best idea.
Reply:^ in my ballet school, in order to do point you don't have to be a certain age, you have to be in at least 1 advanced ballet, and another ballet it doesn't matter which level. its never to late to start point..

%26amp;%26amp; to your question...

I reccomend point. it is a very fun class, and the dances are outstanding. But then again, classes can be annoying sometimes, and your toes tend to hurt. also possability of blisters.

Pro and Con it.

then think about it =]
Reply:generally dance teachers will not let you get pointe shoes untill you are 11 or 12. at least mine wouldn't. the reasoning behind this is that your ankles are not strong enough to support being on your toes all that time. be prepared for very sore feet for a L O N G time. I have had mine for about a year now, and they are just starting to get comfortable. one last thing..... please do not attempt to try pointe on own. talk to your instructor about the possibility of pointe shoes and get her/him to help you every step of the way.
Reply:nope, if you teach yourself you will be wrong, duh.....I want o go on pointe but i am 14, how old are you, mayber I am too late or maybe not?...
Reply:NO NO NO NO NO. Do NOT do this, you're not allowed. You will not get the proper technique, and you will permanently injure yourself. Your dance teacher is the only person who can tell you when you're ready (there are MANY MANY MANY factors that go into deciding if you're ready, like age, weight, experience....) I have two sources that discourage this:
Reply:Well, number one, pay attention in your grammer classes. It's "Are pointe shoes for me?" I'm only 14, and I know better.

Anyways, Ask your dance instructor. You have to have strong ankles, and great posture. I'm pretty sure if you mention it to him/her she will say yes. (8 years of ballet is pretty good)

NEVER teach yourself pointe, that's the worst thing you can do. This summer look for some Pre-Pointe or Beg. Pointe classes, I'm pretty sure you can find help on that, be ready for pointe by the time your school year begins. (August/September)
Reply:No, no, no!

I know you may be dieing to get those point shoes, and go to that next level. But teaching yourself at home? No. First ask your teacher if you are ready for them. If not, ask what you can do to strengthen, and prepare yourself for them.

In all honesty, you need your teachers opinion. He/She should know best. If you do this on your own, There is no telling what you could be injuring if your ankles aren't strong enough. My advice is to ask, practice, and wait until you have a teachers permission. You don't want to injure yourself, plausibly crippling your dance career in the future. Be patient. And work hard.
Reply:Absolutley not!

If you have been dancing for 8 years then good. But you still cannot go en pointe without a teacher reccomendation. You also could not teach yourself at home. It would not ba safe number 1 and number 2 chances are that you will teach yourself very wrong. I began pointe at age 7! I know it seems young and probably dangerous, but my dance teacher reccomended it because I had done ballet since I was 2. SO DONT!
